The effect of canker pruning. The occurrence of cankers was examined in two five-year-old orchards (cultivar ‘Red Jonaprince’) planted side-by-side with trees from the same nursery batch and each subjected to a single copper spray after the onset of leaf fall, but differing in repeated canker pruning (May, July and October) by farmer 1 in the previous season, and no canker pruning by farmer 2. Assessments were conducted on 6 June 2019 before either farmer had done any current-season pruning; from each of the two rows forming the border between the two orchards, eight trees were randomly chosen for examination
